An apprenticeship is a hands-on training program that combines paid, real-world experience with classroom-based learning. It’s designed to teach you the skills, safety practices, and knowledge required to become a certified electrician.
As an IBEW apprentice, you’ll:
- Work under the guidance of experienced journeymen.
- Earn while you learn.
- Attend scheduled classes to learn electrical theory, safety procedures, codes, and more.
- Develop a well-rounded, highly valued skill set that leads to long-term career opportunities.
Apprenticeships typically span several years, and upon completion, you’ll have the experience and credentials needed to work as a journeyman electrician within the IBEW.
You don’t need experience to begin a career in the electrical trade—just motivation and a willingness to learn. To get started, apply to a local Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) program. These programs are part of the Electrical Training Alliance (ETA), a partnership between IBEW and NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association).
As an apprentice, you’ll receive structured on-the-job training alongside classroom instruction. You’ll learn everything from the ground up, so no prior electrical background is necessary.
Visit Northern Nevada Electrical Training Center’s website for more information or to find out how to apply.
