Plan Ahead For Job Calls & Book Signings
As part of our continued effort to streamline operations and better serve both our members and signatory contractors, IBEW Local 401 Dispatch now closes daily at 3:00 PM. This change is intended to improve efficiency, ensure job calls are processed on time, and allow the Dispatch office to meet its growing demand with accuracy and consistency.
This update affects both contractors submitting job calls and members seeking to sign books or respond to job calls, so it’s important that all parties understand the timing and expectations to avoid delays or missed opportunities.
Contractors: Submit Job Calls by 3:30 PM
If you are a contractor looking to post a job call, you have two options:
- Complete the Job Call Submission Form (available online)
- Call the Job Call Line at (775) 357‑8420
In either case, submissions must be received no later than 3:30 PM to be included in the day’s 5:00 PM job dispatch. Calls submitted after this deadline will be processed and posted the following business day. This cutoff helps our team ensure that job calls are accurately reviewed, prioritized, and published on time.
Members: Understand How Dispatch Impacts You
Job calls are typically posted around 5:00 PM each weekday. Your ability to accept a call is based on your current position on the out-of-work book, your classification, and any other eligibility requirements outlined in the call.
Although book signings are still permitted after Dispatch closes, members should be aware that any changes made after 3:00 PM will not affect that day’s job call processing. In other words, signing the book at 3:15 PM won’t change your status until the next day.
To stay competitive and responsive to job opportunities, make sure your book status is up to date, and familiarize yourself with how calls are awarded.
Book Statuses: What You Need to Know
Understanding the language used in job calls can help avoid confusion and ensure you’re taking the right action when a job is posted. Here are two terms to remember:
- Strikeable Long Call:
A call that a member may choose to turn down without penalty. Your name remains on the book in your current position. - Non-Strikeable Long Call:
A call that must be accepted. Refusing this type of call may result in being removed from the book or placed at the bottom, depending on the rules outlined in Local 401’s referral procedures.
