Because No Member Should Go Hungry
At IBEW Local 401, we believe that no one should ever face hunger alone—especially not one of our own. Life can be unpredictable. Even the most hardworking individuals can find themselves in a tough spot: an unexpected medical bill, time off between jobs, or an emergency that disrupts your finances. During these times, putting food on the table shouldn’t be another stressor.
That’s why we’re proud to support a vital lifeline in our community: the Emergency Food Pantry, located at 1190 Selmi Drive, Suite 100 in Reno. This pantry is a collaborative effort between IBEW Local 401, the Northern Nevada Member Assistance Program (NNVMAP), and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, and it exists to ensure that all union members—and the greater Reno community—have access to essential food resources when they need them most.
What Makes This Pantry Unique
Unlike many food assistance programs, there are no income requirements, applications, or red tape involved. You don’t have to “qualify” in any traditional sense. Just show up. This pantry operates with dignity and discretion. Whether you’re an IBEW member, a family member, or simply someone in the area who needs help, you’ll be welcomed and supported without judgment.
This effort is part of a broader mission by NNVMAP, a nonprofit organization created by and for working people. Their mission is to provide immediate, practical support to union members in times of hardship—including food, housing assistance, mental health resources, and more. The Emergency Food Pantry is just one way they show that labor stands together in good times and in bad.
What Is Available At The Emergency Food Pantry
The pantry offers a variety of shelf-stable groceries, dry goods, and household staples, such as:
- Canned fruits, vegetables, and proteins
- Pasta, rice, and grains
- Cereals and snacks
- Paper goods and hygiene items (as available)
While items may vary week to week depending on donations, everything provided is nutritious, practical, and meant to support families and individuals alike.

Ways to Give Back
IBEW 401 members who are currently stable or doing well are encouraged to give back. Whether you donate non-perishable food, offer monetary contributions, or volunteer your time, every act of kindness makes a difference. The pantry relies heavily on local unions, community partners, and volunteers to keep its shelves stocked and its doors open.

When One of Us Needs Help, All of Us Step Up
This pantry is more than just a food source. It’s a reflection of the solidarity, compassion, and resilience that define union life. Whether you need help or want to offer it, remember: you are not alone.
We’re stronger when we take care of each other.
